Everyone who knows me, knows that I love flats. Had I not been a corporate working class girl, my closet would’ve probably comprised solely of flats. So with the imminent occurrence of winter, I needed a few items to update my wardrobe (which is usually the case on an annual basis). And this year, ankle boots were number one on my list. There are just so many beautiful styles to choose from however none ‘spoke’ to me.
That was until I walked into Nine West (for a very different reason might I add). I found the most ideal pair of ankle boots in the store and Murphy’s law, they don’t have it in my size. The sales assistant goes on to tell me they are basically sold out of this style across South Africa. Oh the horror! Anyways, being my determined self, I still left my details just in case by some miracle a pair could be sourced. And as they say, the rest is history! I am now the proud owner of the most amazing ankle boots.
I will be doing a series of posts incorporating these boots into my looks so keep an eye out for them. And ladies remember, you don’t need these exact pairs to create gorgeous looks. My looks are purely inspiration for you to get out your boots and style them to perfection.
My first look incorporates rolled jeans. I love letting a bit of my ankle show between my jeans and boots, highlighting the thinnest part of my legs so that I don’t look like I have wide ankles. This look works best with skinny jeans. Other styles of jeans tend to shorten your legs when rolled. I’ve paired these jeans with a loose fitting shirt for a comfortable yet stylish weekend look.

I’m always excited to receive invites in the mail. This time was no different. Of course I am excited at the prospect of attending an elegant event. Well, until I get to the dress code. And that’s where my issues begin.
Issue 1 – I am one of those people who don’t really know what cocktail attire means. Issue 2 – How does one dress winter appropriately and still pull of cocktail attire. So you guys now understand my dilemma. Black tie, white tie, semi-formal, business, business casual, smart casual, casual and then you still get cocktail! All these vague sartorial rules and regulations are enough to make my head spin.
And so naturally, I think black. You can never go wrong with black. And typically, I’d say a LBD would be ideal, however I am in Johanneburg and the evenings are pretty chilly. And I decided to put a little spin on cocktail attire. The outfit shall be elegant, dressy and weather appropriate. Tailored pants and a long sleeved waterfall coat teamed with statement heels and metallic accessories. Whether or not this actually equates to cocktail attire, I still have no clue. But in all honesty, I do feel fabulous. Isn’t that what individuality is about after all.

Happy Midweek readers!!
I love feathers! And they seem to be everywhere in the fashion world the past few years. They aren’t just confined to prints on fabric, they have been forming part of jewellery and hair extensions too! So no, feathers aren’t just part of costumes on Strictly Come Dancing, in my opinion, they are totally mainstream. And they are the perfect print for winter this season.
Yes I know that its a rather bold print but it makes such a statement with little effort. Why not challenge yourself to add a feather inspired piece into your wardrobe this season, be it a piece of jewellery or an item of clothing. You’ll be surprised at how versatile this design is.
My look today incorporates a feather print dress, sheer stockings and ankle boots. And in all honesty, I wish I could sleep in this ensemble.

The only thing I love about winter is layering up in luxe looks. And this season, nothing says chic quite like the “cape coat”. I have seen so many cape coats on the runways that I’ve actually now lost count. And of course I would take notice of these amazing pieces of fashion architecture! In my humble opinion, cape coats are a fashion forward look to die for.
For me, the ultimate is that these coats transform the simplest of outfits into something special with almost minimal effort. Skinny jeans paired with riding boots and a cape coat. Bull’s eye. Nuff said.
