Cocktail Glamour

I’m always excited to receive invites in the mail. This time was no different. Of course I am excited at the prospect of attending an elegant event. Well, until I get to the dress code. And that’s where my issues begin.

Issue 1 – I am one of those people who don’t really know what cocktail attire means. Issue 2 – How does one dress winter appropriately and still pull of cocktail attire. So you guys now understand my dilemma. Black tie, white tie, semi-formal, business, business casual, smart casual, casual and then you still get cocktail! All these vague sartorial rules and regulations are enough to make my head spin.

And so naturally, I think black. You can never go wrong with black. And typically, I’d say a LBD would be ideal, however I am in Johanneburg and the evenings are pretty chilly. And I decided to put a little spin on cocktail attire. The outfit shall be elegant, dressy and weather appropriate. Tailored pants and a long sleeved waterfall coat teamed with statement heels and metallic accessories. Whether or not this actually equates to cocktail attire, I still have no clue. But in all honesty, I do feel fabulous. Isn’t that what individuality is about after all.

Casual Draping

I love casual draping. Just bring out the Grecian Goddess in me why don’t you. Flowy, flattering, feminine. These dresses are everything. But how does one style them. I would’ve in all honesty, loved to have paired my dress today with a pair of gladiator sandals. However, my feet are in a rather embarrassing condition, hence the boots.

I went for a more casual grunge look, with boots and a thick waist belt. I cannot wait to restyle this dress will lots of layered neckpieces and gladiators. One dress, numerous looks, SCORE!

Happy Friday Everyone 🙂

May the weekend be amazeballs!

Blue Hues

Pastel colours are just delectable. Think macaroons and sweet sorbets. Candyfloss pinks to delicate baby blues are bound to sweeten any summer day.

Well, having an older sister who always spoils me (i.e. buys me awesome clothes) is also rather sweet. So thank you for this gorgeous dress and please do buy me a few more 🙂

White and Bright

White and a pop of bright! I am obsessed (once again). I adore the simple pairing of white with a pop of colour. So effortless, chic and never out of style. A perfect way to spice up one’s white pieces is with statement accessories. My look incorporated a statement pearl neckpiece (well three neckpieces actually) and arm cuffs in orange and gold.

Tribal Prints. Tassels. Messenger Bags.

So last night was date night. And with that comes the dilemma of what to wear. One would think that having a closet full of clothes would make this somewhat easier, but if anything, choice confuses the hell out of me. Well at least it’s Spring and with that comes no stockings (well most of the time anyways), no chunky knits and no layering. So I decided to embrace one of Spring’s major trends – TRIBAL PRINTS. My tribal poison of choice = a Zara skirt. I love the bold, graphic prints and simple shapes of Zara’s pieces. I combined my skirt with a warm salmon coloured blouse in an attempt not to look “overdone”. I am a firm believer that tribal prints add a funky twist to any ensemble, but stick to one print at a time for maximum impact.
