Ankle Boots

Everyone who knows me, knows that I love flats. Had I not been a corporate working class girl, my closet would’ve probably comprised solely of flats. So with the imminent occurrence of winter, I needed a few items to update my wardrobe (which is usually the case on an annual basis). And this year, ankle boots were number one on my list. There are just so many beautiful styles to choose from however none ‘spoke’ to me.

That was until I walked into Nine West (for a very different reason might I add). I found the most ideal pair of ankle boots in the store and Murphy’s law, they don’t have it in my size. The sales assistant goes on to tell me they are basically sold out of this style across South Africa. Oh the horror! Anyways, being my determined self, I still left my details just in case by some miracle a pair could be sourced. And as they say, the rest is history! I am now the proud owner of the most amazing ankle boots.

I will be doing a series of posts incorporating these boots into my looks so keep an eye out for them. And ladies remember, you don’t need these exact pairs to create gorgeous looks. My looks are purely inspiration for you to get out your boots and style them to perfection.

My first look incorporates rolled jeans. I love letting a bit of my ankle show between my jeans and boots, highlighting the thinnest part of my legs so that I don’t look like I have wide ankles. This look works best with skinny jeans. Other styles of jeans tend to shorten your legs when rolled. I’ve paired these jeans with a loose fitting shirt for a comfortable yet stylish weekend look.

Feather Foot Fancy

I love feathers! And they seem to be everywhere in the fashion world the past few years. They aren’t just confined to prints on fabric, they have been forming part of jewellery and hair extensions too! So no, feathers aren’t just part of costumes on Strictly Come Dancing, in my opinion, they are totally mainstream. And they are the perfect print for winter this season.

Yes I know that its a rather bold print but it makes such a statement with little effort. Why not challenge yourself to add a feather inspired piece into your wardrobe this season, be it a piece of jewellery or an item of clothing. You’ll be surprised at how versatile this design is.

My look today incorporates a feather print dress, sheer stockings and ankle boots. And in all honesty, I wish I could sleep in this ensemble.

Bohemian Rhapsody

I would love to believe that my soul is partly bohemian. Partly I say, because in this thing called life, I am extremely bound by my career (tassels unfortunately don’t work well in the corporate world unless it’s Casual Friday). So yes, on weekends I love adding touches of boho to my outfit choices. If you share my sentiments, the easiest way to unleash your inner boho is by incorporating tasseled pieces into your wardrobe.

Finding tasseled pieces won’t be difficult this winter but the key to remember here is to keep it simple. A fatal style mistake will be going into bohemian overdrive and kitting out in tassels from head to toe. Subtle doses of tassels will do the trick. I am finding sweaters and cardigans with tasseled detailing to be extremely popular and are a great addition to one’s winter wardrobe. If you aren’t quite ready to delve into bohemian inspired clothing but are fond of the style, why not start with accessories (feather necklaces, fringed cuff bracelets) or a fringed scarf to add a bit of boho to your style.

Given that my cardigan has a rather bold print, I’ve kept the rest of my look very simple. I’ve also added a belt to accentuate my waist and to avoid looking square.
