Crazy for Capes

The only thing I love about winter is layering up in luxe looks. And this season, nothing says chic quite like the “cape coat”. I have seen so many cape coats on the runways that I’ve actually now lost count. And of course I would take notice of these amazing pieces of fashion architecture! In my humble opinion, cape coats are a fashion forward look to die for.

For me, the ultimate is that these coats transform the simplest of outfits into something special with almost minimal effort. Skinny jeans paired with riding boots and a cape coat. Bull’s eye. Nuff said.

Silver Skirt Trend

So spring and summer fashion somewhat always leans towards pastels, florals and other cool designs. However this season is also the perfect time to indulge in the metallic fashion trend. A metallic skirt would usually be reserved for dressier events but why not stir things up and tone down your metallic number for daytime use.

I’ve paired by skirt with a fun, lightweight blouse. For evening use, I would suggest pairing the skirt with a darker shaded blouse, statement clutch and stilettos. Metallic skirts are demure enough for day, while the metallic finish offers the right amount of drama for the evening!

The Bodysuit

Aaaah, the bodysuit. How chic and fabulous! Forget about all the horrible pictures you’ve seen of your mom donning her bodysuit in the 80’s (high cut terribleness), our generations version is just amazing! I am obsessed with the way a blouse looks neatly tucked into a pencil skirt, with nothing puffing out over the waistband. So of course, as soon as I came across this bodysuit shirt, I had to have it, to achieve the neatly tucken in awesomeness.

And in all honesty, bodysuits don’t need to be restricted to just corporate wear. Why not try it out with high-waisted jeans or shorts on the weekend? So yes, it has a g-string bottom (care for bum floss anyone), which can be off-putting for most woman, but trust me, that’s one of the nicest features, no untidy tell-tale panty lines. I can get use to that!

Shoulder Bling

Shoulder embellished dresses are everywhere and I am honestly loving it! Lace inserts, teamed with delicate beading, nothing could make me happier. I purchased my dress with embellished shoulders, however it’s such a simple DIY project and provides an instant update to old dresses, t-shirts and blouses and a glam alternative to wearing a necklace. Check out your local fabric store for a range of beaded motives and just sew them on. Doesn’t get easier. I suggest that you first pin the motive onto your clothing before sewing it on, just to ensure you get the placement right. Happy embellishing everyone 🙂

Monochrome and Mules

THE MULE. I grew up watching my mom wearing these and well of course, we all morph into our moms at some point or the other. My transition seems to be happening sooner than I expected. And well, so has the mule. It is the made-over version (which I cannot get enough off). From bejewelled flat mules to a chunky heel (or perhaps a sleek stiletto if you aren’t a fan of chunky), the mule is nothing short of perfection! And well, the ease of pulling them off with whatever look you going for, makes them even more desirable.
