Cocktail Glamour

I’m always excited to receive invites in the mail. This time was no different. Of course I am excited at the prospect of attending an elegant event. Well, until I get to the dress code. And that’s where my issues begin.

Issue 1 – I am one of those people who don’t really know what cocktail attire means. Issue 2 – How does one dress winter appropriately and still pull of cocktail attire. So you guys now understand my dilemma. Black tie, white tie, semi-formal, business, business casual, smart casual, casual and then you still get cocktail! All these vague sartorial rules and regulations are enough to make my head spin.

And so naturally, I think black. You can never go wrong with black. And typically, I’d say a LBD would be ideal, however I am in Johanneburg and the evenings are pretty chilly. And I decided to put a little spin on cocktail attire. The outfit shall be elegant, dressy and weather appropriate. Tailored pants and a long sleeved waterfall coat teamed with statement heels and metallic accessories. Whether or not this actually equates to cocktail attire, I still have no clue. But in all honesty, I do feel fabulous. Isn’t that what individuality is about after all.

Purply Blues

I love purple. Its extremely flattering on most skin tones and an extremely versatile colour. So of course when I came across this purple and nude beauty, I needed to have it. I find the nude and purple colour combination really complimentary and delicate. Given that purple is a mix of blue and red, both these shades look amazing when paired with purple. Hence I chose a navy pair of shoes and a navy and cream handbag to accessorise my look.

Can’t decide which bracelet to wear, wear them all. With the stacking bracelet trend, I truely feel that arm candy has been transformed. Historically I haven’t been a huge bracelet or ring fan (the only ring I do sport is a simple Cartier nail wedding ring), but I cannot seem to get enough. Bracelets date back as far back as 7,000 years ago. It has been and still is an accessory that has long held a symbolic and decorative place in human culture. Bracelets may be of sentimental value or simply add a bit of colour and style to an outfit on a grey day. With the stacking trend, bracelets have once again been revived. To all the ladies who haven’t yet tried this out, you need it. It adds instant glam to any outfit.

I have stacked various cream, gold and black bracelets on one hand for today’s look. I absolutely love black and lace and in my opinion stacked bracelets add the perfect amount of quirk to my getup. Hopefully this gives you some stacked bracelets inspiration.

White and Bright

White and a pop of bright! I am obsessed (once again). I adore the simple pairing of white with a pop of colour. So effortless, chic and never out of style. A perfect way to spice up one’s white pieces is with statement accessories. My look incorporated a statement pearl neckpiece (well three neckpieces actually) and arm cuffs in orange and gold.

Blazer and Sneakers

I love black blazers. It has to be one of the most functional pieces in any girl’s wardrobe! So if you don’t one yet, hopefully after today’s post, you’ll be motivated to get one. Hello! We all need staples and the black blazer happens to go with everything, that makes it an essential staple!

The blazer comes in numerous styles but my favourite has to be the slightly over-sized longer length boyfriend style. It is extremely flattering (that’s more than enough convincing for me). Leggings, jeggings, cigar legged pants, dresses, skirts, shorts (lets just make it all bottoms), paired with a blazer proves to be a perfect match everytime, providing an instantly trendy, polished look. Given Friday’s are usually rather casual, I’ve paired my blazer (sleeves folded up) with sneakers (that’s my pop of colour for today), leather look leggings and a messenger bag. You really have the choice to style your blazer any way you want, and the choices are endless!!! Happy Blazer-ing Gorgeous Readers!!!

The Chiffon Blouse

So I’m having yet another style trend moment. I’m bordering on obsessed with elegant, feminine, chiffon blouses (I think it is pretty easy to gather that I have somewhat of an obsessive personality). But, back to the chiffon blouse! The light airy fabric is perfect for Spring, perfect for daytime looks, perfect for date night, just PERFECT!

And that’s why its only fitting that my look today incoprates this perfect piece of flattering fabric. And in all honesty, it’s probably going to be incorparated into many other looks this season!
